Judicial and provincial authorities visited the sector known as “Loma del Torito” in the “La Calera” Military Nature Reserve, where the La Perla Clandestine Detention Center operated, with the aim of coordinating operational collaboration and the provision of resources for the tasks carried out by the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team (EAAF).
Participants included Governor Martín Llaryora; the Minister of Institutional Linkage and Management, Miguel Siciliano; the Secretary of Human Rights, Tamara Pez; and the Secretary of Health and Human Development, Liliana Montero, among others. They were received by Federal Judge Miguel Vaca Narvaja; the lead researcher in charge of the EAAF’s fieldwork, Silvana Turner; and the director of the EAAF forensic genetics laboratory, Carlos Vullo.
During the tour, the prospecting and search work for disappeared persons at the site was presented, which led to the discovery and recovery of a large number of isolated human skeletal remains mixed in removed sediment.
The Governor affirmed that the Province will continue to provide logistical support and resources for the tasks. The work is carried out in cooperation with the Forensic Anthropology Service of the Córdoba Judiciary, the National University of Córdoba, and the Geology Department of the National University of Río Cuarto, who were also present at the meeting. The municipality of Córdoba also provides operational assistance.
DNA analysis on a first set of recovered skeletal remains allowed for the extraction of the genetic profiles of 35 people and the identification of 29 (12 in March and 17 in May), while six profiles remain unidentified.
