The EAAF co-founder was named Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honor at the Embassy of France in Buenos Aires for his contribution to the identification of disappeared persons.
Luis Fondebrider, co-founder of the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team (EAAF), was honored with the rank of Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honor at the Embassy of France in Argentina.
The insignia was presented by attorney Michèle Goupil, co-founder of the Federation of Mutual Aid of the French in Argentina (FEFA) and also a member of the Legion of Honor, who outlined the scope of this distinction, aimed at recognizing service to the general interest and republican values. Also participating was the Chargé d’Affaires of the diplomatic mission, Tomas Napolitano, who emphasized that the award is granted in recognition of the work carried out for the identification of victims of the last military dictatorship in Argentina, among whom are the nun Léonie Duquet and activist Yves Domergue, both French citizens.

That is why each identification carries a meaning that goes far beyond the scientific result. It means recovering a name, an identity, and in many cases, allowing them to begin a grieving process after an open wound that has lasted for decades. Every case involves providing scientific evidence so that justice can determine responsibility for the crimes,” highlighted Fondebrider, who currently serves as an independent forensic expert.
