Findings of human remains continue during the new stage of the search in La Perla

The EAAF found and recovered skeletal remains of missing persons during the second stage of archaeological prospecting and excavation work at the Loma del Torito site, located within the grounds of the former Clandestine Detention Center La Perla, in the province of Córdoba.

The findings resulted from the systematic exploration of an area of approximately 3 hectares, adjacent to the area explored during the first stage, between September and November 2025. In this new stage, which began in May and will continue through October 2026, a large number of scattered and disarticulated skeletal remains have been recovered from backfill sediment, a context similar to the results obtained in the previous stage of exploration at the site.

The EAAF continues field search and recovery work. The recovered skeletal remains have been sent for anthropological analysis to the laboratory of the Forensic Anthropology Service of the Forensic Medicine Institute of the Córdoba Judicial Power, which is cooperating on the project.

The ongoing work was ordered by Federal Court No. 3, led by Judge Hugo Vaca Narvaja. The National University of Córdoba and the Geology Department of the National University of Río Cuarto are collaborating, while the Provincial Government and the Municipality of Córdoba are providing logistical support and various resources.

DNA analyses conducted by the EAAF’s Forensic Genetics Laboratory on an initial set of recovered skeletal remains allowed for the genetic profiles of 35 individuals to be obtained and 29 to be identified (12 in March and 17 in May), while six individuals remain unidentified.

The EAAF calls on families with a person who disappeared between 1974 and 1983 to provide a blood sample confidentially, free of charge, and voluntarily, by contacting WhatsApp at +54911 2348 5229, calling 0800 345 3236, or emailing iniciativa@eaaf.org.
