In 2005, at the request of President Hifikepunye Pohamba, EAAF traveled to Namibia to investigate newly found skeletal remains in the Oshana and Ohangwena regions, which border Angola, related to the conflict that occurred in that region during the Apartheid era. The Team provided technical advice on the work to be carried out, ranging from communication with and treatment of the victims’ families to grave management and protocols.
It also participated in the attempt to identify remains at the Okatope police station, where three people’s skeletal remains had been found; it was able to identify gunshot wounds, even though the exhumation had been conducted unscientifically. The Team also assisted with forensic work on other cases.
