EAAF Received the Angelelli Award “The Future of Memory”

The Human Rights Secretariat of the Province of La Rioja, together with the Centro Nueva Tierra, honored the EAAF with the “Angelelli Award: The Future of Memory – 50 Years.” The recognition took place in the context of the 50th anniversary of the coup d’état and the crimes committed against Monsignor Enrique Angelelli, priests Carlos de Dios Murias and Gabriel Longueville, and layperson Wenceslao Pedernera.

Virginia Urquizu, coordinator of the EAAF case unit, received the award from Pablo Goyochea, alongside Julia and Tadeo—the children and grandchildren of José Luis Goyochea and Nélida Noemí Moreno de Goyochea, who were identified this year by the EAAF in La Perla, Córdoba. José Luis was born in La Rioja and was kidnapped alongside his wife in Córdoba in August 1977. They had been missing ever since.

During the ceremony for the fifth edition of the award, held at the Casa de La Rioja in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (CABA), other individuals and organizations committed to the defense of human rights and the construction of memory, truth, and justice were also recognized: Father Juan Ángel Dieuzeide; the organization Palotinos por la Memoria, la Verdad y la Justicia; the National Commission for the Right to Identity (CONADI); social leader Ramona Romero; federal judge Hugo Vaca Narvaja; congressman Eduardo Valdés; social leader Esteban “Gringo” Castro; artist Daniel Santoro; political leader Nancy Cappelloni; Father Elías Musse; the self-organized retirees group “12 Apóstoles”; and, in memoriam, the late federal judge Juan Carlos Reynaga.
