In the far south of Thailand (the provinces of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat), there is a separatist conflict involving a predominantly Malay Muslim population. As a result of interventions by Thai security forces, enforced disappearances were reported and documented in the “counterinsurgency campaign” between 2004 and 2006. Since 2013, EAAF has provided a series of trainings to the Central Institute of Forensic Science on the search for and recovery and identification of victims.
