Recognition from the Association of Relatives of Missing Migrants of Guatemala to the EAAF

The Association of Relatives of Missing Migrants of Guatemala (AFAMIDEG) recognized the EAAF for “its tireless, selfless, and courageous work in supporting the search, identification, and comprehensive assistance to the families of missing migrants in Guatemala.”

AFAMIDEG is a civil organization that “promotes the search for missing migrants and justice for migrants who were massacred, in addition to fighting for the authorities to fulfill and guarantee the search for truth, justice, reparation of damages, and the guarantee of non-repetition.”

The EAAF works alongside this organization on the Border Project (Proyecto Frontera), an initiative aimed at contributing to the creation of a transnational and regional system for the forensic search of missing migrants in the Central and North American migratory corridor. To achieve this, the EAAF coordinates this project in partnership with more than 100 governmental bodies and non-governmental organizations across the countries in this corridor.

To date, the Border Project has enabled the identification of more than 480 migrants, including 85 people from Guatemala.
