New York Office
The position: We seek an organized, detail-oriented, highly responsible individual who is interested in human rights issues and has experience working in a professional office to join the organization. In conjunction with the Director of North and Central America programs and appropriate Subcoordinators in New York and Mexico City, the Program and Forensic Case Associate is responsible for coordinating tracking of forensic cases, largely of missing migrants traveling north along the Central America-Mexico-US corridor as well as local disappearances within Mexico. The Associate also provides support for other EAAF programs across North and Central America, including the inter-organizational relationships of our Forensic Border Coalition, a group that EAAF co-founded with forensic scientists, scholars, and human rights partner organizations working to address barriers to identifying remains of missing migrants found along the US-Mexico border.
The work involves assisting with documentation and task management for forensic cases, maintaining precise information tracking, scheduling meetings, and communicating with forensic and genetic laboratories, medical examiners offices, and external organizations to assemble and provide needed information. In addition, all staff in the NY Office work as a team to provide support to the organization and project operations and coordinate regularly with team members working in Mexico City and Buenos Aires.
This position requires a self-motivated, detail-oriented individual who can bring energy to resolving unforeseen needs, exercise quality control over data, and communicate with sensitivity with a range of people regarding cases that touch on human rights issues, forensic science, and missing persons. Abilities to work as a self-starter and as a member of a multi-location team, to manage multiple deadlines, and to treat all cases with the highest level of care and dignity are essential.
Schedule parameters: Full time, ability to work evening/flexible hours when deadlines arise is essential
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Benefits: Generous employer contribution to health insurance (in most cases 100% covered). Two weeks of vacation in first year of employment, with an increase to three weeks in the second year.
